About this Session

Have you been wondering how you can scale spend management processes with Xero, instead of having to migrate to an ERP system? We've got the webinar for you.

Part of our series, Building an Enterprise-Level System with Xero. You might think you're outgrowing Xero. But this series proves that if you know what’s available, Xero and its app ecosystem can prevent the need to install a complex and expensive ERP system.

Join us and our spend management partner, Spendesk, on Wednesday, 13 Sep 2023 10:00 - 10:30 BST for top tips on how to level up your spend management game and successfully scale your business with Xero.

What to expect:

  • Exploring the pains spend management manifests for larger Xero users.
  • Real-world experiences from a finance leader who has grappled with these issues themselves, Anna Cuthbert, Financial Controller at Galop.
  • Solutions from a Xero app ecosystem expert, Luke Streeter from flinder.
  • Plus actionable insights from Spendesk’s UKI Country Manager, Paddy O'Neill.

We’ll be diving into the challenges of scaling spending controls and how the Xero app ecosystem, including Spendesk, can help you create a system that offers both autonomy and control.

Q&A from the live webinar

Q1: I appreciate that the apps will contain all the complexity leaving Xero to be sort of a shell but then what will be left for Xero to do? Just the reporting function? What if you are using an app to change the reports as well? Why still use Xero?

A1: Luke Streeter: Ultimately you need a core/central system that is the master of the data, that talks to the other systems. You also have the underlying general ledger and requirement to run a trial balance etc. so the apps are “Super-charging” the core finance application.

Q2: We are Xero and Spendesk users. Also a small turnover via Shopify. My concern is that we're under utilising both Xero and Spendesk. Implementation is, I know, always slower than anticipated because of day to day pressures. Also as an organisation (national reading charity) we are evaluating all our data to see how we can better use/monetise it (data warehousing/PowerBI). So we have a lot of moving parts. We need some independent advice – what kind of organisation/consultant do we need to bring in?

A2: Luke Streeter: What resources and focus do you have in Finance? As if there isn’t the time, focus or experience (or combination of this) in the right systems, how to use them and scale then you will naturally only know what you know. I’d start by asking your accountant if they can help support, maybe a finance function review with recommendations would be valuable to you.

Q3: Are there any deal breakers? Is there a need a company might have that will mean they have to move from Xero?

A3: Luke Streeter: It will depend on specifics, but often you only know what you know, so joining a session like this or research of the challenge you are having would be the starting point. If you have a specific challenge, be happy to give a view and try to help point you in the right direction.

Q5: What are your tips for finding the appropriate Xero add on with reviews, set up tips, demos etc? Thinking communities, websites etc.

Q6: How do we sign up to Xero magazine & is there a forum where we can educate ourselves on the addons?

A5+6: Check out our media partner, XU Magazine (https://www.xumagazine.com/), our professional development partner GrowCFO for more on this!
